Postgun

Guide

How to send email campaigns through your own Mailgun account

Mailgun is a sending API, not a campaign tool: it has no list import, designer or campaign scheduler. Postgun adds those on top of your own Mailgun account, so the mail goes out from your domain with your reputation.

  1. 01

Add and verify a sending domain in Mailgun

In the Mailgun dashboard, open Domains and add a domain or subdomain you own, such as mail.example.com. Add the SPF, DKIM and MX DNS records Mailgun shows you, and wait until the domain is marked verified.

  2. 02

    Note your region

Mailgun accounts live in the US or the EU region. If your Mailgun dashboard is at app.eu.mailgun.com, choose EU in Postgun. Otherwise choose US.

  3. 03

    Copy your API key

Under API Security in Mailgun, copy your private API key. A domain sending key can send mail, but Postgun also imports bounces, complaints and unsubscribes before every campaign, which needs the private key.

  4. 04

    Connect it in Postgun

Create a free Postgun account, open the Mailgun tab and paste the domain, region and key. Postgun checks the key with Mailgun before saving it and stores it encrypted (AES-256-GCM).

  5. 05

    Import a list and send

Upload a CSV or Excel file, design the email, send yourself a test, then start the campaign. Postgun sends up to 500 recipients per Mailgun request and shows progress live.

Questions

Does Postgun cost anything?
Postgun is free. You pay Mailgun for the emails you send, at your Mailgun plan's rates.
Can I use Mailgun's EU region?
Yes. Choose EU when you connect, and every request goes to api.eu.mailgun.net.
Can I connect more than one domain?
Yes. Add a connection per domain and choose which one each campaign sends from.
Why didn't some recipients receive the email?
Addresses that bounced, complained or unsubscribed in Mailgun are skipped automatically to protect your domain's reputation. They show as skipped in the campaign log.
